September 2026 steel output: a regional check for ferrosilicon buyers

← News

Buyer takeaway (24 October 2026): World crude steel production was almost flat in September, but that single global figure hides different regional conditions. The data is useful background for a ferrosilicon purchasing discussion. It does not measure ferrosilicon consumption, available stock or the price of a particular grade.

What the new release says

On 23 October, the World Steel Association reported 142.4 million tonnes of crude steel output in September 2026 across 70 reporting countries, 0.2% below September 2025. Its regional figures were not uniform: the EU (27) was down 5.0% year on year, while North America was up 3.4% and Asia and Oceania was up 0.7%. China was nearly unchanged at 73.6 million tonnes; India rose 1.9% to 13.9 million tonnes. These are crude steel production figures for a month, not forecasts of ferroalloy purchases.

How to use the numbers in an RFQ

  • Keep the time frame straight. September output describes activity that has already happened. Our earlier October steel outlook note discusses a forward-looking demand forecast. Neither is a live ferrosilicon quotation.
  • Compare the market you actually buy for. A global total can conceal local changes. Ask suppliers for a current written offer for your destination and required grade instead of assuming a global output change sets your price.
  • Keep product approval separate. State the Si target, impurity limits, size range, quantity and delivery destination. A macro production number cannot show whether the offered lot matches those conditions.

The practical next step is to compare dated, like-for-like offers against your own specification. Regional steel activity can inform the questions you ask, but it cannot establish Xinrui’s current inventory, lead time or price. For the fields to send in an enquiry, use our quotation checklist.
